Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant formally inaugurated the newly established Ladakh Bench of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh at Melongthang, Leh, marking a transformative milestone in decentralized judicial administration.
Key Facts & Dimensions
- Highest-Altitude High Court Bench: Recognized as India's highest-altitude High Court judicial facility, the bench ensures accessible and affordable justice for litigants and advocates across the high-altitude remote districts of Leh and Kargil, removing the historic requirement of traveling to Srinagar or Jammu for appellate hearings.
- Four Pillar Digital Initiatives: Concurrently, the CJI launched four landmark judicial reforms: the Green Wall Initiative (promoting environmental conservation in fragile trans-Himalayan ecosystems), an integrated e-Filing Portal (enabling remote electronic case filing from border areas), a Document Management System (DMS for paperless digital case records), and an Online Recruitment Portal (standardizing district and High Court recruitment).
