Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must possess 10th pass or ITI (Industrial Training Institute) or equivalent qualification.
  • Alternatively, a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT is also accepted.
  • Candidates awaiting final results of their prescribed educational qualification are NOT eligible.
  • There is a special relaxation for canteen staff of MB Division NR, where the minimum education qualification is Class VIIth Pass.

Age Limit Details

The age limit is 18 to 36 years as on 01.01.2025. A one-time age relaxation of 3 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit has been granted due to the Covid-19 pandemic for posts in Level-1.

Age relaxations for various categories are applicable as follows:

  • OBC-Non Creamy Layer (NCL): 3 Years
  • SC/ST: 5 Years
  • Ex-servicemen with at least 6 months service:
    • UR&EWS: 3 years (after deduction of length of service)
    • OBC-NCL: 6 years (after deduction of length of service)
    • SC/ST: 8 years (after deduction of length of service)
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD):
    • UR&EWS: 10 Years
    • OBC-NCL: 13 Years
    • SC/ST: 15 Years
  • Serving Group 'C' and erstwhile Group 'D' Railway Staff, Casual Labour and Substitutes with minimum 3 years of service:
    • UR&EWS: 40 Years of age
    • OBC-NCL: 43 Years of age
    • SC/ST: 45 Years of age
  • Apprentices applying for posts where minimum qualification is ITI/Course Completed Act Apprenticeship: Age relaxation applicable to the extent of the training undergone under the Apprentice Act 1961.
  • Canteen staff of MB Division NR: Maximum age up to 60 years.

Exam Syllabus & Pattern

Computer Based Test (CBT) Syllabus

The examination will consist of a single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT) with objective-type multiple-choice questions. There will be negative marking, with 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question deducted for every wrong answer.

The examination duration is 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with a scribe).

Subject-wise Topics:
  • Mathematics: Number systems, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement - Arguments and Assumptions etc.
  • General Science: Covers Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level (CBSE).
  • General Awareness on current affairs: Topics in Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subject of importance.
Qualifying Marks:
  • UR/EWS: 40%
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST: 30% (relaxable by 2 marks for PwBD in case of shortage)

How to Apply

  • Applications must be submitted ONLINE only through the official websites of the respective Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) as listed in Para 21.0 (A) of this notification.
  • Candidates must first 'Create an Account' on the RRB website if they haven't already. Use a unique mobile number and email ID for registration; these details cannot be modified later.
  • Existing users from any Indian Railways CEN of 2024 can use their same account credentials to log in.
  • Fill in the online application form with personal details, bio-data, and exercise options for desired Railway(s) and post(s). Candidates can apply to only one Railway. Multiple applications will lead to rejection.
  • Upload a recent, clear colour passport-size photograph (50-100 KB, 35mmX45mm or 320x240 pixels, JPEG format, white/light background, professional studio quality, not older than two months). Ensure no dark glasses or caps are worn, and facial features are clearly visible.
  • Upload a scanned JPEG image of your signature in running handwriting (30-50 KB, 50mm x 20mm or 140 x 60 pixels, on white paper with black ink). Signatures in block/capital letters will be rejected.
  • SC/ST candidates requesting free travel must upload their caste certificate (PDF, up to 500 KB).
  • PwBD candidates may need to upload a passport-size photograph of the scribe if applicable (40-70 KB, JPEG).
  • Pay the application fee online. Rs. 400/- (for general candidates) or Rs. 250/- (for exempted categories) will be refunded upon appearing in the first stage CBT.
  • Candidates can modify application particulars (except chosen Railway, Email ID, and Mobile Number) by paying a modification fee of Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) during the specified modification window (25.02.2025 to 06.03.2025).
  • It is advisable to apply well before the closing date to avoid last-minute technical issues.
