- Eligibility A: A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in Sociology from an Indian University or an accredited foreign university. Additionally, candidates must have either:
- Cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or a similar UGC-accredited test like SLET/SET.
- Been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments, which exempts them from NET/SLET/SET. Specific conditions for Ph.D. exemption include regular mode, evaluation by at least two external examiners, open Ph.D. viva voce, two research papers (at least one in a refereed journal), and two conference/seminar presentations.
- Eligibility B: A Ph.D. degree obtained from a foreign university/institution with a ranking among the top 500 in the World University Ranking (QS, THE, or ARWU) at any time.
Desirable Qualifications: Ability to teach papers related to Sociology, Indian Society, Urban Sociology, and Research Methodology; preference for candidates with a Ph.D. in the relevant field and two or more years of teaching experience; experience of research on Northeast India; ability to teach inter-disciplinary courses.
