Educational Qualification

• Essential Professional Qualification: Must hold a Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Master of Foreign Going (FG) ship issued by the Ministry of Shipping / Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India.
• Sea Service Experience: Minimum one (01) year post-qualification sea service experience as Master or Chief Officer of a foreign-going ship.
• Designation Note: As per Ministry guidelines, newly recruited officers will be designated as 'Probationary Pilot' or 'Trainee Pilot' until central government authorization to pilot vessels is granted.
• Major Port Authority Employees: Regular employees of any Major Port Authority possessing the requisite CoC and sea service may apply up to 55 years of age.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Upper age limit is 40 years as on 11/09/2026. Age concession of 5 years is admissible to SC/ST (up to 45 years) and 3 years to OBC (up to 43 years). Employees of any Major Port Authority possessing prescribed qualifications can apply up to 55 years.

Candidates must first register online through the Ministry of Shipping Online Application Portal (OAP) at http://onlinevacancyshipmin.nic.in. Simultaneously, the physical application in the prescribed format (Annexure I) along with self-attested copies of DOB proof, CoC (Master FG), CDC, Passport, INDOS number, Caste Certificate, and photographs must reach the Deputy Conservator, Marine Department, Chennai Port Authority, No. 1, Rajaji Salai, Chennai - 600001 by September 11, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a personal interview. Candidates working in Government/PSU/Autonomous bodies must produce an NOC and Vigilance Clearance at the time of interview. No TA/DA is admissible.
