The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), operating under the guidance of the U.P. State Legal Services Authority and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), is dedicated to providing free and competent legal services to the underprivileged and disadvantaged sections of society. This ensures that opportunities for justice are accessible to all citizens, regardless of economic or other disabilities.
The Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS) is a new model of legal services delivery, akin to a public defender system, introduced to strengthen and professionalize legal aid in criminal matters. It involves the full-time engagement of lawyers who exclusively handle legal aid work from the pre-arrest stage through trials and appeals, enhancing responsiveness, accessibility, and accountability in the justice delivery system.
