Candidates must possess a medical qualification as per the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, and be registered with a State or National Medical Register. A postgraduate qualification recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or its equivalent (e.g., MD, MS, DM, MCh) is mandatory. Foreign medical qualifications from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand are also accepted if deemed equivalent to Indian postgraduate degrees.
Diplomate National Board (DNB)/Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) qualifications are considered equivalent to MD, MS, DM, MCh, particularly when obtained from institutions with attached hospitals or those with 500+ bed strengths. For DNB/DrNB from institutions with fewer than 500 beds, an additional one-year senior residency may be required.
For non-medical candidates, a Doctorate degree from a recognized university is essential.
Specific Departmental QualificationsDetailed specific qualifications for various faculty positions across departments like Surgical Oncology, Neurosurgery, Medical Oncology, Anesthesiology, Radio diagnosis, etc., are provided in Table-II and Table-III of the original notification. These typically include MCh/DM/DNB for super-specialties and MD/MS/DNB for broad specialties. A Doctorate degree/PhD is specified for Medical Physicist roles, and MDS for Dentistry.
