Candidates must hold a Postgraduate degree in a relevant or allied subject from an Indian University with a minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale). An equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university is also acceptable.
- In addition to the postgraduate degree, candidates must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or CSIR, or a similar test like SLET/SET accredited by UGC. (Note: Only SET qualified candidates from Madhya Pradesh are eligible).
- Candidates holding a Ph.D. degree in accordance with UGC Regulations 2009 or subsequent regulations are exempted from NET/SLET/SET, provided their Ph.D. meets specific conditions (regular mode, two external examiners, open viva-voce, two published research papers with one in a refereed journal, and two paper presentations in conferences/seminars).
- A 5% relaxation in marks (i.e., 50% instead of 55%) at the postgraduate level is provided for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Class (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD candidates of Madhya Pradesh.
