Best-Fit Profile

This unique opportunity is ideal for skilled tradespersons and technical professionals with practical experience who are seeking adventurous, challenging work in an extreme environment. Candidates must be medically fit, possess relevant ITI or Engineering Diploma/Degree qualifications, and have 2-5 years of post-qualification experience in their respective trades. A willingness to work on a contract basis for 6 to 18 months in Antarctica, under the direct coordination of NCPOR, is essential. This role suits individuals who thrive in demanding conditions and are keen to contribute to India's scientific missions in the polar regions.

Important Considerations

Individuals who prefer stable, long-term employment within India, or those who are not prepared for extensive periods away from home in remote and harsh conditions, should not apply. Candidates lacking the specified minimum experience (2-5 years depending on the post) or appropriate formal qualifications will not be considered. Those with pre-existing medical conditions that might be aggravated by extreme cold or high-stress environments are also unsuitable, as a rigorous medical examination and acclimatization training are mandatory.

Career Impact

Working with the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, offers significant prestige and a unique career experience. Being part of the Indian Antarctic Expeditions provides unparalleled exposure to cutting-edge scientific support operations in one of the world's most remote locations. While the roles are contractual, the experience gained is invaluable for specialized profiles, offering significant professional development and an opportunity to contribute directly to national scientific endeavors. Long-term growth may involve repeated expeditions or transitioning to other specialized roles within research support.
