Age Limit & Relaxations
The maximum age limit varies by cadre and is generally not exceeding 50 years as on 01-08-2025. For posts like Hindi Typist in the Directorate General, Defence Estates, the age limit is not exceeding 45 years as on 01-01-2025. Age relaxations are permissible for specific categories:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- Disabled Defence Personnel (in operation during hostilities): 3 years
- Disabled Defence Personnel (in operation during hostilities, SC/ST): 8 years
Syllabus & Exam Pattern Overview

PART-I: COMPUTER BASED & WRITTEN EXAMINATION (300 MARKS)
The examination consists of two papers:
- Paper-I (Computer Based Examination): 200 Marks, Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions.
- General Awareness: 100 Questions, covering environment, current events, history, culture, geography, economics, science, general politics, and scientific research.
- English Language and Comprehension: 100 Questions, testing English language knowledge, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion, phrases, idioms, and comprehension. (Matriculation level)
- Time Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
- Paper-II (Written Examination - Conventional Type): 100 Marks.
- Noting, Drafting & Office Procedure: Designed to test knowledge of office procedure, ability to write notes and drafts, based on Manual of Office Procedure, Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha, Hand Book of orders from Ministry of Home Affairs, and Reservation Policy for SC/STs.
- Time Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
100 marks are allocated for the evaluation of service records (APARS). Marks obtained will be added for determining the candidate's rank.
