The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), established in 1936, is a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and a grant-in-aid Institute under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. TISS is recognized as a Grade I University by NAAC. It operates four campuses across Mumbai, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Tuljapur, offering diverse undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. programs in socially relevant inter-disciplinary areas of applied Social Sciences.
The Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CETE), an independent center at TISS Mumbai, was established in 2015 to promote innovation in school curriculum, teacher education, and higher education pedagogy. CETE fosters quality and standards, utilizes new technologies, and received the UNESCO-King Hamad Prize for Excellence in the Use of ICTs in Education in 2018. It is actively involved in research, development, teaching, and advocacy, and offers various courses and opportunities for national and international collaboration.
