Candidates must possess a degree from a recognized Indian University in a relevant field. The preferred specializations vary by post:
- Social Worker Member (Juvenile Justice Board): A degree, preferably in child psychology, psychiatry, sociology, health sciences, education, or law.
- Chairperson/Member (Child Welfare Committee): A degree, preferably in child psychology, psychiatry, law, social work, sociology, human health, education, human development, medicine, or special education for differently-abled children.
