JNCASR Bengaluru Recruitment 2026 – Apply for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Post

The Junior Research Fellow will join Prof. Jayanta Haldar's Antimicrobial Research Laboratory in the New Chemistry Unit (NCU) at JNCASR, Jakkur, Bengaluru. JNCASR is a premier national research institution under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The project, sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), addresses a critical biomedical challenge: developing in-aqueous covalent antimicrobial surface coatings on silicone/polyurethane catheters to combat multidrug-resistant biofilm formation and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs). Daily research combines polymer synthesis, surface functionalization, physicochemical characterization (NMR, FT-IR, contact angle, XPS), and biological antimicrobial evaluation (bacterial culture, biofilm disruption assays, biocompatibility testing). The laboratory environment is cutting-edge, highly collaborative, and equipped with world-class central instrumentation facilities.

Stationed at New Chemistry Unit, JNCASR Campus, Jakkur, Bengaluru, Karnataka – 560064. The appointment is on a temporary project basis, initially for one year, extendable up to the duration of the DBT project subject to satisfactory annual research progress and grant continuation.

The JRF position is an extramural project fellowship and does not confer any entitlement or claim for permanent absorption or regular staff appointment at JNCASR. However, JRF fellows working in DST/DBT projects at JNCASR have the opportunity to appear for the institute's Ph.D. admission interview/written evaluation to register for a Ph.D. degree. Furthermore, high-impact publications and patents resulting from Prof. Haldar's lab open direct avenues for prestigious international postdoctoral fellowships and academic/R&D placements in biopharma.
