- Master's Degree in Sociology or an allied subject with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from a recognized Indian or foreign university.
- Candidates must have passed the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR or an equivalent SLET/SET accredited by UGC.
- Candidates holding a Ph.D. degree as per UGC Regulations 2009 or later are exempt from NET/SLET/SET. Specific conditions for Ph.D. exemption apply.
- A 5% relaxation in Master's degree marks (50% instead of 55%) is provided for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwD candidates.
- Ph.D. holders who obtained their Master's degree before September 19, 1991, also receive a 5% relaxation in marks (50% instead of 55%).
