Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess one of the following Master's degrees:

  • Master's degree from a recognized University or equivalent in Hindi or English, with English or Hindi as a compulsory/elective subject or medium of examination at the degree level.
  • Master's degree from a recognized University or equivalent in any subject (other than Hindi or English), with Hindi or English medium and English or Hindi as a compulsory/elective subject or medium of examination at the degree level.
  • Master's degree from a recognized University or equivalent in any subject (other than Hindi or English), with Hindi and English as compulsory/elective subjects of either or both as the medium of examination and the other as a compulsory/elective subject at the degree level.

AND must also fulfill ONE of the following additional criteria:

  • Possess a recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa.
  • Have two years' experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice-versa in Central or State government offices, including Government of India undertaking.

Age Limit & Relaxations

  • Upper age limit is relaxable by up to 05 years for regular employees working in Council/Government Departments/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector Undertakings as per GOI/CSIR instructions.
  • Relaxation of 05 years for Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
  • Relaxation of 03 years for Other Backward Class (OBC) (NCL) candidates.
  • Relaxation up to 35 years for Widowed, divorced women and women judicially separated from their Husbands (provided they are not remarried).
  • Age relaxation of 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBDs). This implies a maximum of 15 years for SC/ST PwBDs and 13 years for OBC PwBDs, including their respective category relaxations.

Syllabus & Exam Pattern Overview

The selection process will involve an open written competitive examination consisting of two papers:

Paper I (Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination)
  • Medium: English and Hindi
  • Standard: Graduation Level
  • Time Allotted: 1 hour (1 hour 20 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates)
  • Subjects & Marks:
    • General Intelligence: 50 Questions, 150 Marks (3 marks for every correct answer)
    • Quantitative Aptitude: 25 Questions, 75 Marks (3 marks for every correct answer)
    • General Awareness: 25 Questions, 75 Marks (3 marks for every correct answer)
  • Negative Marking: One negative mark for every wrong answer.
Paper II (Descriptive Type)
  • Time Allotted: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates)
  • Purpose: To assess writing and translation skills.
  • Content:
    • Writing of a paragraph in English and Hindi separately.
    • Precis writing in English and Hindi.
    • Translation from English to Hindi and Hindi to English.
  • Total Marks: 300 Marks.
  • Evaluation Criteria: Paper II will only be evaluated for candidates who secure the minimum threshold marks (to be determined by the Selection Committee) in Paper I. The final merit list will be prepared solely based on the marks obtained in Paper II.

  • These posts carry usual allowances including Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) as admissible to central government employees and CSIR.

Application Procedure

  1. Eligible candidates must apply online by visiting the CSIR-NEIST website: https://www.neist.res.in.
  2. The online application portal opens on 2026-08-29 (8:30 A.M.) and closes on 2026-09-28 (05:00 P.M.).
  3. Candidates are advised to carefully read all instructions available on the CSIR-NEIST career portal before applying.
  4. Apply well in advance to avoid last-minute technical issues.
  5. If applying for more than one post code (not applicable for this single post), separate applications along with separate SB Collect payment receipts must be submitted for each.
  6. A non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500/- (for General/OBC/EWS candidates) must be paid via SBI Collect. SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen/Women/CSIR Employees are exempted. The transaction number/UTR must be mentioned in the online application.
  7. After successful submission, candidates should take a printout of the online generated application form for future reference. There is no need to submit a hard copy of the application.
  8. Candidates currently employed in CSIR/Government organizations/PSUs must upload a "No Objection Certificate" (NOC) from their employer.
  9. Ensure all requisite educational qualification certificates, caste/category certificates, and other supporting documents (e.g., experience certificates, disability certificates) are uploaded in the prescribed format. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  10. Any updates regarding the advertisement, including exam dates, venue, or changes in posts, will be made available only on the CSIR-NEIST website. Candidates are advised to visit the website regularly for updates.
