The District Legal Services Authority, Latur, operates under the State Legal Services Authority. Established under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, its core mandate is to deliver free and competent legal services to the underprivileged and disadvantaged sections of society. This ensures that access to justice is not denied due to economic or other disabilities, thereby promoting justice based on equal opportunity for all citizens.
The authority is implementing the 'Legal Aid Defense Counsel System' (LADCS), a new model introduced by NALSA, which involves full-time engagement of lawyers to handle legal aid work exclusively in criminal matters, from pre-arrest to trials and appeals. This initiative aims to enhance the availability and accessibility of legal aid, providing qualitative and competent legal services to the vulnerable segments of society.
