Ph.D. in the appropriate discipline with first class or equivalent in the preceding degree, accompanied by a consistently good academic record. Experience requirements vary by rank: 10 years (with 4 years as Associate Professor) for Professor; 6 years (with 3 years as Assistant Professor) for Associate Professor; 3 years post-Ph.D. for Assistant Professor Grade-I; and fresh Ph.D. for Assistant Professor Grade-II on contract. Permanent/regular faculty appointments are subject to a probation period of 2 years (or 2-year contract extendable by 1 year for contractual appointments) stationed at the IIM Shillong campus, Umsawli, Shillong, Meghalaya (Pin: 793018).

Career progression follows the Ministry of Education Flexible Faculty Cadre structure for IIMs: Assistant Professor Grade-II progresses to Grade-I upon accumulating 3 years post-Ph.D. experience; progression to Associate Professor (Level-13A2) typically requires 6 years experience with high-tier ABDC/Scopus publications, followed by elevation to Professor (Level-14A) after at least 10 years of distinguished teaching and research.
