Best-Fit Profile

This role is ideal for fresh graduates with a degree in Hospitality, Hotel Management, or Culinary Arts (BBA/MBA with Culinary Arts specialisation) who are seeking valuable exposure in the railway catering and hospitality sector. Candidates should possess strong communication skills in English and Hindi, with knowledge of Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam being an added advantage. The position requires a willingness to travel extensively across India and manage operational responsibilities in trains and catering units. Individuals looking for a contractual engagement with a leading PSU and an opportunity to work in a dynamic, customer-facing environment would find this suitable.

Important Considerations

Candidates seeking permanent government employment should not apply, as this is a purely contractual role for an initial period of two years, extendable based on performance. Those unwilling to travel frequently (up to 22 days per month) or be deployed anywhere in India at IRCTC's discretion will find this role unsuitable. The requirement for a Rs. 25,000 security deposit might be a dealbreaker for some, although it is for selected candidates only.

Career Impact

IRCTC is a reputable Public Sector Undertaking under the Indian Railways, offering a stable and recognized platform for career growth in the hospitality sector. While the role is contractual, it provides significant exposure to large-scale catering operations, premium train services, and passenger management, enhancing a candidate's profile for future opportunities within the industry. The experience gained at a national level with IRCTC carries considerable institutional prestige and offers a strong foundation for long-term career advancement in hospitality management, albeit not directly within a permanent government service framework.
