Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), recognized as an Institute of Eminence and Institute of National Importance, houses the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS)—India's premier academic hub for meteorological, oceanic, and climate research. Under the supervision of Prof. Sarvesh Kumar Dubey, the Junior Research Fellow joins an apex Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) funded research project: 'Understanding the energetics of Tropical Cyclones in the Bay of Bengal to predict rapid intensity changes, and provide future projections in the warming climate scenario'. Working in CAS Block VI, the fellow analyzes high-resolution ocean-atmosphere coupled models, executes Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) simulations on high-performance computing (HPC) clusters (IIT Delhi's Padum / PARAM supercomputers), computes kinetic energy and available potential energy budgets, quantifies the role of Tropical Cyclone Heat Potential (TCHP) and sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies on rapid intensification (RI) of Bay of Bengal cyclones, and evaluates IPCC AR6 climate projection models. The research environment is intellectually rigorous, computationally intensive, and directly contributes to India's national cyclone early warning capabilities.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

Contractual research appointment renewable yearly up to 10/11/2028 (over 2 years), co-terminus with project funding. Stationed at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi - 110016.
