Educational Qualification

Essential: M.Sc. or M.Tech in Geophysics with mandatory GATE or NET qualification.
Job Description: Seismic data processing and waveform interpretation of lunar datasets.
Ph.D. Prospect: The selected candidate may get an opportunity for Ph.D. admission at IIT Roorkee as per institute guidelines.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Applications received on or before October 08, 2026 will be screened based on academic merit in M.Sc./M.Tech Geophysics and valid GATE/NET scorecards. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a Personal Interview on October 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Earth Sciences Department, IIT Roorkee. Preference will be given to SC/ST candidates on equal qualifications and experience. No TA/DA is admissible.

The position is based in the Department of Earth Sciences at IIT Roorkee under an ISRO-sponsored planetary research project titled 'Investigating sub-surface scattering structure of the Moon near the Chandrayaan-3 landing site with seismic datasets'. Fellows work directly with lunar seismic data recorded by the ILSA instrument of Chandrayaan-3. Day-to-day duties involve digital seismic data processing, wavefield scattering analysis, forward numerical modeling, and collaborative scientific publishing.

The project fellowship is purely temporary and contractual for a duration of 3 years, co-terminus with the ISRO project. Selected candidates have an opportunity to be considered for Ph.D. registration at IIT Roorkee subject to departmental norms.
