Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess an MBBS degree along with a Post Graduate Degree (MD/MS/DNB) in Orthopaedics or Dermatology from a recognized university/institution. Must hold a valid Delhi Medical Council (DMC) registration certificate for MBBS as well as PG degree/diploma (or proof of having applied for PG registration with DMC as on the date of interview).

Age Limit & Relaxations

Maximum age limit is 45 years as on the date of interview (28.10.2026) as per H&FW Dept. order dated 26-11-2020. Age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer, Delhi) candidates is applicable as per rules.

Senior Residents in Orthopaedics and Dermatology handle heavy outpatient (OPD) footfalls, inpatient ward management, emergency trauma duties (especially in Orthopaedics), minor and major surgical/dermatological procedures, and teaching of DNB/MBBS interns and junior residents. The environment is high-volume and clinically intensive, offering substantial hands-on autonomous clinical exposure.

The engagement is on an ad-hoc basis initially for 89 days (or 44 days as per administrative exigency) or until regular Senior Residents join, whichever is earlier. Ad-hoc tenures are routinely extended subject to satisfactory performance and vacancy continuation, up to the maximum residency cap of 3 years under the Central Residency Scheme.

Senior Residency is a fixed-tenure academic-cum-clinical training post under the Government of India Residency Scheme and does not form a permanent promotional cadre. However, completing 3 years of Senior Residency at a recognized GNCTD teaching hospital fulfills the mandatory experience requirement for appointment as Assistant Professor / Specialist Grade-II in central and state medical colleges, AIIMS, ESIC, and UPSC Combined Medical Services.
