Educational Qualification

Research Associate (RA): Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, or relevant plant science discipline with thesis research focused primarily on CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene editing, prime editing, or transgenic generation. Senior Research Fellow (SRF): Master's degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Biotechnology, Plant Physiology, Plant Biochemistry, or Life Sciences with 4/5-year Bachelor's degree (1st Division), or 3-year Bachelor's + 2-year Master's with NET/GATE/ICAR-SRF and 2 years research experience. Young Professional-II (YP-II): Master's degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Biotechnology, Plant Physiology, Plant Biochemistry, or Life Sciences.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Maximum age limit as on 11.11.2026: 40 years for men and 45 years for women for RA and YP-II; 35 years for men and 40 years for women for SRF. Age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST, OBC, and PwD candidates as per Government of India rules.

Advanced molecular genetics and plant biotechnology research environment within the Division of Plant Physiology and Division of Biochemistry at ICAR-IARI, Pusa, New Delhi. Fellows execute high-throughput CRISPR/Cas9 and prime editing experiments, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation in pulses and oilseeds, vector engineering, molecular Southern/PCR/RT-qPCR validations, and greenhouse agronomic phenotyping under Principal Investigators.

Purely temporary contractual fellowship for an initial term of 6 months or project duration, extendable subject to satisfactory performance and ICMR/ICAR funding continuity. Terminable with one month's notice.

No departmental promotion channel exists for project fellowships; however, first-author research publications in high-impact international journals and CRISPR gene-editing credentials earned at ICAR-IARI provide unparalleled qualifications for ARS Scientist examinations, DBT/DST Ramalingaswami/Inspire faculty fellowships, and international post-doctoral careers.
