Junior Research Fellows (JRF) in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science (MEMS) at IIT Indore work under the prestigious ISRO RESPOND sponsored research scheme. The researcher will investigate fracture toughness (KIC / JIC) of additively manufactured nickel-based superalloys (IN718, IN625, and XH67) in extreme cryogenic to elevated temperature ranges (77K to 950K) for aerospace launch vehicle applications. The role combines experimental mechanical testing (cryogenic tensile, fracture, fatigue testing), microstructure characterization (SEM/EBSD, TEM), and numerical modeling (finite element analysis). Fellows work closely with faculty Principal Investigators (Dr. Jayaprakash Murugesan) and ISRO technical monitors.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Stationed at IIT Indore campus in Simrol, Khandwa Road, Indore, Madhya Pradesh - 453552. Initial fellowship tenure is for 3 months, extendable until project completion subject to satisfactory research progress. As a project-funded fellowship under ISRO, it is co-terminus with the project and does not confer any right to permanent absorption.

JRFs who complete two years of research and exhibit satisfactory progress are typically eligible for elevation to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) with enhanced emoluments (Rs. 42,000/- p.m. + HRA), subject to review committee approval. Furthermore, JRFs meeting the institute's academic criteria have strong prospects for converting their research into full-time Ph.D. registration at IIT Indore under institute project category guidelines.
