Sanginis (Anganwadi Workers) operate community-level child development centres (AWCs) in their designated electoral wards under Mission POSHAN. Core responsibilities include non-formal early childhood care and education (ECCE) for children aged 3–6 years, distribution of supplementary nutrition to infants, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, real-time tracking of growth and malnutrition milestones on the Poshan Tracker mobile app, organizing Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Days (VHSND), and coordinating with ASHA and ANM healthcare workers for immunizations. Standard operational timings are 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on working days.

Postings are strictly ward-specific and non-transferable outside the assigned electoral ward/panchayat. The position is an honorary community service role governed by the Human Resource Policy for Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (Govt. Order No. 222-JK (SWD) of 2022). Service continues up to the statutory age limit of 60 years subject to regular attendance, physical fitness, and satisfactory performance.
