Educational Qualification

Level 1: 10th Pass or ITI or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.
Level 2 & 3: 12th (+2 stage) passed or equivalent, or 10th Pass plus ITI/Course Completed Act Apprenticeship approved by NCVT/SCVT for technical categories.
Level 4 & 5: Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University.
Mandatory Sports Norms: Recognized sports achievements in Athletics, Boxing, Cricket, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Weightlifting, or Cue Sports between 01-04-2024 and 26-09-2026 as per official notification criteria.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Candidates must be aged between 18 and 25 years as on 01-01-2027 (born between 02-01-2002 and 01-01-2009, both dates inclusive). No age relaxation (upper or lower) is permissible for any category under Railway sports quota rules.

Selection is based on a 100-mark evaluation comprising: (i) Practical Sports Trials (40 Marks; minimum 25 marks required to be declared FIT), (ii) Assessment of recognized sports achievements (50 Marks), and (iii) Educational qualifications (10 Marks). Minimum qualifying marks are 70 for Level 5/4, 65 for Level 3/2, and 60 for Level 1.

Recruited sportspersons are placed in departments such as Commercial (Clerk cum Typist, Ticket Examiner), Operating, or Workshop/Maintenance. While fulfilling assigned railway duties, players are assigned to Southern Railway sports teams, attending daily coaching camps, training sessions, and inter-railway championships (USIC/All India Railway tournaments). If appointed as Clerk cum Typist, candidates must achieve typing speed of 30 wpm in English or 25 wpm in Hindi within 4 years.

Initial posting is across Southern Railway divisions (Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Palakkad, Salem, Thiruvananthapuram) or Headquarters/Workshops in Chennai/Perambur. Recruits must execute a mandatory 5-year Service Bond agreeing to serve Indian Railways. The probation period is 2 years, extendable up to 4 years if sports performance is unsatisfactory.
