Educational Qualification

Candidates hailing from Tamil Nadu who passed full-time qualifying examinations during 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or May 2026.
Category I – Graduate Apprentices (76 Places): Full-time Degree in Engineering or Technology (B.E./B.Tech) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a recognized University/Institution.
Category II – Technician (Diploma) Apprentices (32 Places): Full-time Diploma in Engineering or Technology in Civil Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a State Council/Board of Technical Education.
Disqualification: Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training, or have 1 year or more post-qualification job experience, are not eligible.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Age limit will be followed as per the Apprenticeship Rules (minimum age 18 years as on date of joining). No upper age limit is specified under standard Apprenticeship Rules.

Shortlisted candidates are informed via registered email and published on the NATS portal (Fourth week of October 2026), followed by in-person Certificate Verification at CMWSSB, Chennai tentatively in the first week of November 2026. There is no written examination or interview.

Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB / Metrowater) is the statutory municipal board responsible for water supply, water treatment, sewerage infrastructure, and wastewater recycling across the Greater Chennai Corporation area. Apprentices work under senior executive engineers and assistant engineers across major installations—including water distribution networks, headworks, desalination plants (Minjur, Nemmeli), water treatment plants (Kilpauk, Chembarambakkam, Puzhal, Surapet), wastewater treatment plants (STPs), and intermediate sewage pumping stations. Training provides hands-on practical exposure to hydraulic pipeline networks, pump house maintenance, water quality testing, telemetry, PLC/SCADA systems, and municipal water asset operations.

The apprenticeship training is strictly for a fixed period of one year under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Act 1973. All training postings are located within the jurisdiction of CMWSSB in Chennai and suburban areas. Training cannot be extended beyond one year.
