Work Culture & Environment

Office/fieldwork balance, duties, organizational environment.

The positions are based at the Centre for Sensors, Instrumentation and Cyber Physical Systems Engineering (SeNSE) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, an Institute of National Importance. The project (RM00220G), sponsored by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is titled 'Design and Development of SPAD based Time Gated Raman sensor for stand-off detection of explosives' and is spearheaded by Prof. Satish Kumar Dubey. Laboratory operations involve cutting-edge defense instrumentation, optoelectronics, pulsed laser systems, Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) detectors, and stand-off optical explosive sensing. The research culture is rigorous, multidisciplinary, and high-impact, offering access to world-class central fabrication and optics facilities.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

The appointments are contractual, initially for one year, renewable annually or up to the duration of the DRDO project (scheduled until 07.07.2029), whichever is earlier. The appointment is purely project-based and confers no claim or right for regular absorption or permanent employment at IIT Delhi.

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

As project appointments under external grants, there is no direct institutional promotion ladder. However, selected JRF candidates have avenues to register for institutional Ph.D. programs at IIT Delhi subject to institute norms. For Research Associates, holding a prestigious DRDO-sponsored position at IIT Delhi offers exceptional research pedigree, high-impact SCI publication records, and a direct gateway to Scientist-C/D positions in DRDO, ISRO, CSIR labs, or Assistant Professor roles across IITs and NITs.
Crucial Application Warnings & Eligibility Traps

Avoid common application rejection triggers, photo/signature guidelines, and certificate validity windows.

  • Mandatory Form IRD/REC-4: Applications must strictly use Form No. IRD/REC-4 downloaded from the official IRD website (ird.iitd.ac.in/rec); unstructured CVs alone will not be entertained.
