Educational Qualification

• B.Tech in Civil Engineering with minimum CGPA of 7.0/10 (or 70% aggregate).
• M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Dynamics with minimum CGPA of 6.5/10 (or 65% aggregate).
• Mandatory GATE qualification.
• Desirable: Hands-on expertise in finite element software, numerical modelling, and programming skills (Python/MATLAB). Eligible candidates may also be enrolled in the Ph.D. programme (project category) at IIT Roorkee.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Upper age limit is governed by DRDO / DST JRF guidelines (generally up to 28 years as on application deadline), relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST/Women/PwD and 3 years for OBC candidates.

The JRF conducts laboratory triaxial tests, geotechnical soil characterization, large-scale geotechnical centrifuge experiments at IIT Bombay, and sophisticated 3D finite element numerical modeling. The role involves intense computational simulation and high-impact defense engineering research under award-winning faculty (INAE Young Engineer Awardee Dr. Akanksha Tyagi and Prof. M. Ashraf Iqbal).

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

Stationed primarily at the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (Roorkee, Uttarakhand), with fully funded travel and residential accommodation at IIT Bombay (Mumbai, Maharashtra) for conducting geotechnical centrifuge test series. The project tenure runs until July 2029. Eligible candidates can concurrently enroll in the Ph.D. program (project category) at IIT Roorkee and are smoothly transitioned to institute assistantship upon project completion.

Ph.D. scholars retain full fellowship continuity until thesis submission as per IIT Roorkee norms.
