The Junior Research Fellow (JRF) will be stationed at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal, working under Assistant Professor Dr. Shiv Raman. Sponsored by ISRO under the prestigious RESPOND framework (Project RS36036), the project focuses on 'Residual stress measurement and mitigation in high thickness AA2219 alloy friction stir welds for next generation launch vehicles'. The researcher will work on friction stir welding of high-strength aerospace aluminium-copper alloys (AA2219), analyze microstructural evolutions across weld zones (nugget, TMAZ, HAZ), measure residual stress distributions using advanced diffraction/indentation techniques, and evaluate stress-relief heat treatments. State-of-the-art laboratory facilities at NIT Warangal include heavy-duty FSW machines, universal testing machines, SEM, and XRD systems.
