Post-wise minimum educational qualifications:

  • Position 15001 (Project Associate-I): Master's degree in Agronomy / Agriculture / Horticulture / Floriculture from a recognized university.
  • Position 15002 (Project Associate-I): M.Sc. in Food Science & Technology / Food Fermentation / Food Nutrition from a recognized university or equivalent.
  • Position 15003 (Project Associate-II): M.Sc. Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry / Pharmacy / B.Tech / B.E. Chemical / Industrial Engg. OR M.E. / M.Tech. Chemical / Industrial Engg. with 2 years research experience in R&D.
  • Position 15004 (Project Associate-I): B.E / B.Tech in Computer Science / Information Technology OR Masters in Remote Sensing / GIS / Geoinformatics / AI & Data Science or equivalent.
  • Position 15005 (Project Associate-II): B.E / B.Tech in Computer Science / IT / Electronics OR Masters in Remote Sensing / GIS / Geoinformatics / Geography / Forestry / Ecology / CS / AI & Data Science with 2 years research experience in R&D.
  • Position 15006 (Project Assistant-I): SSC / 10th plus ITI from a recognized Board / Institute. Drone pilot license / IT experience desirable.
  • Position 15007 (Project Associate-I): B.E / B.Tech in CS / IT OR MCA OR Masters in Remote Sensing / GIS / Geoinformatics / AI & Data Science.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Maximum age limit is 35 years as on 30-09-2026. Age relaxation of 5 years is granted for SC, ST, PwBD, and Women candidates, and 3 years for OBC candidates as per Government of India rules.

CSIR-IHBT is a premier national research laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) located in Palampur, Kangra Valley, Himachal Pradesh. Project staff work directly under Principal Investigators (PIs) on funded external/internal grants (GAP, FTT, MMP projects), with periodic six-month performance evaluations.

Engagement carries no implicit or explicit entitlement for regularization or absorption into permanent CSIR service. Posting is at CSIR-IHBT Palampur (H.P.), except Position 15001 which involves duties at University of Ladakh, Stakna, Leh.

Project staff are engaged on a contractual basis without automated promotion tracks. However, Project Associate-I personnel become eligible for promotion/upgrade to Project Associate-II upon completing 2 years of relevant R&D experience. Qualifying CSIR-UGC NET or GATE immediately elevates stipend compensation. Furthermore, project tenures at CSIR-IHBT offer substantial credentials and research foundations for enrollment into Ph.D. programs under AcSIR and future permanent scientist selections.

Consolidated monthly stipend ranges from Rs. 18,000/- + HRA up to Rs. 35,000/- + HRA depending on post, experience, and NET/GATE qualification.
