Educational Qualification

Candidates must be respectable and educated citizens of India ordinarily residing in the Union Territory of Puducherry (respective regions: Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe, or Yanam) and actively engaged in public activity or social welfare work. For each regional board consisting of 5 members (1 Chairperson and 4 Members), at least two shall be women, and one member with legal experience (e.g., law degree/advocate) will be considered.

1. Members of the Dowry Advisory Board operate under the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Puducherry, across the 4 administrative regions (Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam). Constituted under Section 8(B)(4) of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 read with Rule 8 of the Pondicherry Dowry Prohibition Rules, 1998, the Board convenes at least once every three months (or earlier if needed). The Chairperson and Members advise Dowry Prohibition Officers and the Superintendent of Police on the effective enforcement of anti-dowry legislation, assist in investigating complaints, provide constructive recommendations, and conduct community awareness on social welfare and women safety.
