Aspirant Ground Reality & Career Trajectory

Verified Official Source

Practical service rules, posting locations, transfer policy, and promotion ladder curated from official gazettes.

Work Culture & Environment

Office/fieldwork balance, duties, organizational environment.

Delhi Police Sub-Inspectors handle urban policing, investigating officer (IO) charges, law and order maintenance, crime investigation, VIP security, and court prosecution with heavy public interaction in the National Capital. In contrast, CAPFs (BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB) operate under paramilitary command structures: BSF and ITBP guard international borders in challenging desert and high-altitude Himalayan terrains; CRPF handles internal security, anti-naxal operations (LWE), and counter-insurgency; CISF manages industrial security, critical infrastructure, airports, metro rail, and ports; and SSB guards open borders with Nepal and Bhutan.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

Delhi Police SIs spend their entire service life within the NCT of Delhi, rotating across police stations, specialized wings (Special Cell, Crime Branch, Cyber Cell), and district lines. CAPF SIs have All-India service liability with mandatory rotational transfer policies: 3 years in high-hardship/field postings (e.g., J&K, LWE areas, North-East) followed by 3 years in peace or static units, as regulated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

Delhi Police SIs typically earn promotion to Inspector in 12 to 15 years, and subsequently to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP / DSP rank). In CAPFs, direct-entry SIs are promoted to Inspector in 6 to 10 years, and can advance to Assistant Commandant (AC - Gazetted Group 'A') through promotional departmental boards (DPC) or Limited Departmental Competitive Examinations (LDCE).
Crucial Application Warnings & Eligibility Traps

Avoid common application rejection triggers, photo/signature guidelines, and certificate validity windows.

  • Strict Driving License Rule for Delhi Police: Male candidates must possess a valid LMV Driving License (Motorcycle and Car) on the date of PE&MT. A learner's license is strictly inadmissible.
  • Real-Time Camera Photo Requirement: The new SSC portal captures live photos during form submission. Attempting to upload a scanned pre-existing passport photo will lead to immediate rejection.
  • Major Exam Pattern Overhaul: Paper-I is restructured to 100 questions (100 marks) with a mandatory 15-minute sectional timer for each part. Paper-II has been expanded beyond English to include Reasoning, GK, and Quant (total 320 marks).
  • Crucial Educational Qualification Date: Candidates must possess their degree on or before 30.09.2026. A result declared even one day after this date will void candidature.
  • Rigorous Physical Measurement & Endurance Standards: Height and chest measurements are strictly verified. Physical endurance events (1.6 km / 800m run, long jump, high jump, shot put) are qualifying but eliminate a high percentage of unprepared candidates.
