Work Culture & Environment

Office/fieldwork balance, duties, organizational environment.

Technicians in PTCUL manage operation and maintenance across 400kV/220kV/132kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations and transmission lines, requiring rotating shifts, routine equipment checks (transformers, switchgear), and emergency breakdown restoration. Technicians in UJVNL are deployed across hydroelectric generating stations (Chhibro, Khodri, Dhakrani, Vyasi, etc.) handling turbine governors, generators, excitation panels, and penstock valve maintenance in high-terrain hydraulic plant environments.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

Initial probation/training period is 2 years. Substation and powerhouse assignments are spread across hill and plain districts of Garhwal and Kumaon regions. Hill postings (Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh) typically carry a tenure of 3 to 5 years before candidates become eligible for rotational transfer to plain zones (Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee, Haldwani).

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

Entry level is Technician Grade-II (Level-4, ₹27,200 - ₹86,100). Promotion to Technician Grade-I (Level-5, ₹29,200 - ₹92,300) occurs after approximately 5 to 7 years of regular service. With additional qualifications (e.g. polytechnic diploma) or mandated residency and clearance of internal departmental examinations, technicians become eligible for promotion to Junior Engineer (JE - Electrical/Mechanical, Level-7).
Crucial Application Warnings & Eligibility Traps

Avoid common application rejection triggers, photo/signature guidelines, and certificate validity windows.

  • Uttarakhand Domicile / Schooling Requirement: Only candidates who are registered in an Employment Exchange in Uttarakhand, or hold a permanent domicile of Uttarakhand, or completed 10th and 12th from recognized institutions in Uttarakhand are eligible to apply.
  • Mandatory Post-Qualification Experience: The 2-year trade experience must strictly be post-qualification (earned after receiving the ITI certificate). Pre-course or apprenticeship training prior to certificate award will be rejected.
  • Negative Marking Penalty: Strict 0.25 (1/4th) marks negative marking applies for each wrong answer. Marking multiple options for a question is treated as incorrect. Using whitener or scratching on OMR sheets attracts negative marking.
  • Live Photo Capture & Thumb Impression: Application requires live webcam photograph capture with automated facial verification, plus clear uploads of left thumb impression (150x100 px) and signature.
  • Zero Edit Policy for Critical Fields: Name, parent names, date of birth, and examination center choices cannot be modified during the 3-day application correction window (28-30 November 2026).
