ITBP Constable (General Duty) under Sports Quota personnel are combatised members of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force governed by the ITBPF Act 1992 and Rules 1994. While their primary active assignment revolves around intensive daily sports conditioning, national training camps, and representing the Force and nation in competitive tournaments, they undergo basic military and policing training and remain liable for border security, counter-insurgency, and law-and-order duties when required.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

Sportspersons are primarily posted at ITBP Central Sports Teams, sports academies, and training centers (such as Delhi, Panchkula, Karera, and Dehradun). Outside active competitive sports cycles, personnel are liable for pan-India deployment, including extreme high-altitude Himalayan border outposts (BOPs) along the LAC at altitudes ranging from 9,000 to 18,750 feet under sub-zero climatic conditions.

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

Standard career progression proceeds from Constable (GD) -> Head Constable (GD) -> ASI (GD) -> Sub-Inspector (GD) -> Inspector (GD) -> Subedar Major. Under Government of India sports promotion policies, meritorious sportspersons who achieve podium finishes at National Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, or World Championships are eligible for out-of-turn accelerated promotions.
Crucial Application Warnings & Eligibility Traps

Avoid common application rejection triggers, photo/signature guidelines, and certificate validity windows.

  • Sports achievement validity is strictly bounded between 01/01/2024 and 01/11/2026; medals or participation prior to 01/01/2024 are invalid and will lead to disqualification.
  • Candidates must upload authentic sports certificates in their candidate profile on the ITBP recruitment portal prior to submitting the application; failure to upload will result in application rejection during scrutiny.
  • Sports certificates must strictly be issued by authorized competent bodies (SAI, IOA, National Sports Federation) in prescribed Form-1, Form-2, Form-3, or Form-5 as specified in the advertisement.
  • The qualifying cut-off in the Sports Trial Test is 20 marks out of 40 marks; failing to attain 20 marks will eliminate the candidate on the spot regardless of documentation status.
  • Only online applications submitted via https://recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in are accepted; no physical or offline application will be processed.
