Work Culture & Environment

Office/fieldwork balance, duties, organizational environment.

Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) act as vital bridges between the marginalized public, legal aid institutions, and the justice delivery system. Enrolled volunteers are assigned duties at Front Offices of DLSA/TLSCs, Village Legal Care and Support Clinics, Police Stations, District Jails / Sub-Jails, Child Welfare Committees, and Special Lok Adalats. Work involves creating legal awareness regarding government welfare schemes, helping victims of domestic violence or bonded labour, guiding litigants to free legal representation, and assisting in amicable dispute settlements.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

PLV empanelment is voluntary and honorary. PLVs are not full-time government employees and are called for duty on specific days or assignments. Empanelment is typically reviewed periodically (usually for 1 to 2 years) based on active participation, community reports, and service dedication. The role does not guarantee permanent absorption, regularization, or civil service claims under the State of Odisha.

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

Because PLV is an honorary volunteer engagement rather than a cadre-based post, there is no formal departmental promotion ladder. However, active and dedicated PLVs gain extensive grassroots exposure, judicial authority recognition, and legal aid certificates, which substantially benefit those pursuing social work careers, law degrees, or competitive judicial/administrative clerkship recruitments.
