Work Culture & Environment

Office/fieldwork balance, duties, organizational environment.

The Disaster Project Officer reports directly to the S.D.M-cum-Deputy Collector and the District Collector (Chairman, DDMA Diu). Diu being a coastal island territory is susceptible to Arabian Sea cyclonic storms, storm surges, and coastal flooding. Daily responsibilities include reviewing and updating the District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP), operationalizing the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) 24/7 during alert warnings, coordinating with IMD/INCOIS for early warning broadcasts to fishermen, conducting multi-hazard mock drills in coastal villages (Vanakbara, Ghoghla), and coordinating emergency relief supplies with Coast Guard and SDRF units.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

The post is stationed at Seva Bhavan, Collectorate, Fort Road, Diu. The engagement is purely on a short-term contract basis (typically renewed annually based on satisfactory performance and project requirements). Being a single district-specific position, transfers to other districts do not take place, though frequent field visits across Diu island and shoreline installations are required.

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

This is an unattached short-term contractual position with a consolidated remuneration of ₹35,000/- per month without pension or regular civil service hierarchy benefits. While there is no regular departmental promotion ladder, the hands-on exposure to coastal disaster administration, DDMA planning, and emergency operations offers valuable credentials for national and state disaster bodies (NDMA, SDMAs, NIDM) and international development agencies.
