Work Culture & Environment

Office/fieldwork balance, duties, organizational environment.

The Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) is engaged under Section 15 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 to represent the State in trials before the designated Special Court / Exclusive Special Court in Jehanabad. Daily duties involve examining prosecution witnesses, drafting bail oppositions, arguing framing of charges, liaising with the District Police Investigating Officers (DSPs), and presenting evidence to secure convictions in caste-based atrocity offenses. The role demands intense trial advocacy, regular physical presence in the Civil Court, Jehanabad, and active communication with victims and witnesses to ensure witness protection and state compliance with relief provisions.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

Engagement is tenure-based (generally appointed for a term of 3 years by the Law Department, Government of Bihar on the recommendation of the District Magistrate), subject to annual performance reviews and satisfactory state representation. The engagement does not constitute regular civil service employment and can be discontinued at the discretion of the State Government.

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

As an appointed law officer, there is no departmental promotion ladder. However, serving as Special Public Prosecutor confers immense professional prestige, courtroom trial leadership, and substantial seniority credit for prospective elevation to higher state counsel panels, Government Pleader (GP), Public Prosecutor (PP), or judicial service appointments.
