Work Culture & Environment

Office/fieldwork balance, duties, organizational environment.

As a Contractual Medical Officer under NHM Khordha, roles in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) and District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) involve high-responsibility clinical care. In the SNCU, the MO manages critically ill neonates, premature newborns, resuscitation, phototherapy, and neonatal sepsis management in a high-dependency setting with rotating 24x7 emergency call duties. In the DEIC, the MO coordinates interdisciplinary screening and early intervention for 4Ds (Defects at birth, Diseases, Deficiencies, and Development delays/disabilities) in children up to 18 years. While offering an attractive consolidated base pay of ₹ 77,165/- per month with professional clinical autonomy, the work demands intense patient handling and active coordination with district health authorities.

Posting & Transfer Policy

Initial posting criteria, zone preferences, transfer liability.

Stationed at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) / designated healthcare facility in Khordha district, Odisha. The appointment is purely temporary and contractual until 31-03-2027, renewable on an annual basis contingent upon satisfactory performance certification and continuation of the NHM scheme.

Career & Promotion Ladder

Promotion timeline, seniority ladder, pay grade scaling.

The post is contractual under the Odisha State Health & Family Welfare (OSH&FW) Society and does not confer direct permanent regularization into the Odisha Medical and Health Services (OMHS) Cadre. However, contractual MO service in NHM Odisha provides substantial career weightage and reservation/incentive marks in state PG medical entrance exams and regular OPSC Medical Officer recruitment, making it an ideal career bridge for MBBS doctors.
