Educational Qualification

• Doctoral Qualification & Degrees: Ph.D. degree with First Class at both Bachelor's (B.E./B.Tech) and Master's (M.E./M.Tech) levels in Engineering or Technology (or First Class in B.E./B.Tech if Ph.D. was obtained directly after graduation).
• Experience Criteria: Minimum 15 years of total professional experience in Teaching, Industry, or Research, out of which at least 07 years must be at the level of Professor or above in a reputed educational institute, industry, or research organization.
• Scholarly Eminence: A visionary leader with proven administrative, teaching, and research credentials, including significant doctoral research guidance and an outstanding academic track record throughout.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Candidates should preferably be not more than 65 years of age as on the closing date of application (20.10.2026). The appointment is on contract basis for a term of five years or till attainment of 70 years of age, whichever is earlier.

The Director of a National Institute of Technology (NIT) serves as the academic and executive head of an 'Institution of National Importance' under the NITSER Act, 2007. The Director acts as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Senate, presiding over all undergraduate/postgraduate academic curricula, faculty appointments, infrastructure growth, research parks, student welfare, and endowment funds, working closely with the Board of Governors (BoG) and the Council of NITs headed by the Union Minister of Education. The role entails intense administrative leadership, inter-ministerial coordination with the Ministry of Education, NIRF and global QS ranking optimization, and establishing state-of-the-art research centers of excellence.

The position is stationed at the respective NIT campus: NIT Hamirpur (HP), MNIT Jaipur (Rajasthan), NIT Jalandhar (Punjab), NIT Rourkela (Odisha), SVNIT Surat (Gujarat), NIT Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu), or NIT Mizoram (Aizawl). The appointment is on a contract basis for a term of five years or till the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. The Director is provided with an official furnished residential bungalow on campus, official chauffeur-driven vehicle, medical facilities, and executive staff support.
