Educational Qualification

Essential: B.Tech / B.E. / M.Tech. / M.E. / equivalent in relevant discipline (Computer Science & Engineering or allied) with NET / GATE and at least 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks in aggregate from a recognized technical institute or university in a full-time program.
Desired Skills: Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) & Polarimetric SAR fundamentals, SAR data processing & geospatial tools (handling NISAR data), signal processing & detection algorithms (CFAR and variants), statistical modeling for clutter/noise, Python programming (NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV), computer vision, deep learning with lightweight models (CNNs, YOLO, MobileNet), feature extraction for ship classification, and trajectory/direction prediction (Kalman filtering).

Stationed at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Goa (Cuncolim campus), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education. The Junior Research Fellow works under Dr. Damodar Reddy Edla on an ISRO-funded project under the prestigious NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) Utilization Programme. Responsibilities include processing complex polarimetric SAR datasets, implementing robust Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) algorithms, and training lightweight deep learning models (YOLO, MobileNet) for detecting maritime dark vessels and predicting navigation trajectories. Research scholars gain hands-on expertise in spaceborne radar geospatial analytics, contribute to high-impact IEEE/Elsevier research publications, and collaborate on national space mission data.

Posting & Transfer Policy

The project is sanctioned for a total duration of 3 years. The appointment is offered initially for 1 year, extendable on performance review. After 2 years, JRFs are upgraded to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) at enhanced fellowship rates. The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project.
