Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess an MBBS degree with Post Graduate Degree/DNB/Diploma or equivalent in the concerned specialty from a recognized University/Institute. In case of non-availability of MD/DNB/Diploma candidates in a specialty, MBBS candidates with a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in the concerned department will be considered on an ad-hoc basis. Candidates must not have completed 3 years of Senior Residency in any recognized institute (regular or ad-hoc). Registration with the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) with MBBS and requisite postgraduate qualification is mandatory on or before the date of the interview (or receipt of applied status).

Age Limit & Relaxations

Maximum age limit is 45 years as on the date of interview as per Delhi Government Health & Family Welfare order dated 26.11.2020. Age relaxation of up to 5 years is admissible for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates belonging to Delhi (Non-Creamy Layer only).

Selection will be purely on the basis of merit determined by the Selection Board through a Walk-in Personal Interview along with evaluation of academic records, post-graduate clinical training, and professional portfolio. Candidates must report at the Office of the Medical Director, Burari Hospital between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on the scheduled interview day for original document verification. Separate merit lists will be prepared for fresh candidates and candidates shortlisted under relaxed criteria (candidates who have completed 3 years of Senior Residency or MBBS candidates with 2 years of departmental experience). Waitlisted panels remain valid for 6 months or until a fresh selection is conducted.

Burari Hospital is a 768-bedded Delhi Government multi-specialty healthcare facility in Kaushik Enclave, North Delhi, equipped with a 50-bedded ICU, modular operation theatres, and dedicated oxygen plants. Senior Residents manage high patient footfalls across outpatient departments (OPDs), emergency admissions, and intensive care units. Work shifts include rotational night duties and emergency on-call rosters. While clinical exposure to varied pathology across urban and rural populations (approx. 10 lakh catchment area) is extensive, administrative workloads and managing patient triage under ad-hoc service conditions require high resilience.

The appointment is initially on an ad-hoc basis for a period of 44 days or until a regular doctor joins. Services are extendable in 44-day increments up to a cumulative maximum tenure of 3 years under the Residency Scheme, subject to satisfactory work and conduct. Any prior senior residency tenure served in other central, state, or municipal government institutions is counted toward the 3-year statutory ceiling. Either party may terminate the contract with one month's notice.

Senior Resident is a tenure-based residency training post without direct promotion within the residency scheme. Upon successful completion of 3 years of senior residency, doctors become eligible to apply for regular specialist or faculty positions (Assistant Professor / GDMO / Specialist Grade II) in Delhi Health Services (DHS), UPSC CHS, ESIC, AIIMS, and state medical colleges.
