Educational Qualification

• Educational Qualification: Minimum 4-year Bachelor's degree (B.E. / B.Tech) OR Master's degree (M.E. / M.Tech) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or equivalent disciplines.
• National Test Qualification: Qualified in a national level examination such as GATE, CEED, JEST, UGC-NET, or CSIR-NET (including Assistant Professorship/Lectureship).
• CFTI Exemption: Requirement of national level tests is exempted for candidates holding > 8.0 CGPA in their qualifying degree from Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs/IITs/NITs) under the Ministry of Education.
• Desirable Background: Prior design and development experience in Power Electronics Converter Design, GaN devices, and DC-DC/AC-DC converter topologies.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Age limit is governed by DST/ISRO guidelines for JRF positions (generally up to 28 years on the application closing date, with relaxations of 5 years for SC/ST/Women/PwD and 3 years for OBC candidates).

IIT Roorkee is an apex Institute of National Importance located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. The Junior Research Fellow will be situated in the Department of Electrical Engineering under Principal Investigator Dr. Siba Kumar Patro. The research centers on an Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO, Bengaluru) sponsored aerospace project titled: 'Enhanced Protection-enabled GaN based High Voltage Electronic Power Conditioner for traveling Wave Tube Amplifiers for Aerospace Applications.' The laboratory environment is experimental and hardware-intensive, involving the design and testing of space-grade Electronic Power Conditioners (EPC) utilizing wide-bandgap Gallium Nitride (GaN) switching devices. Day-to-day work entails computer simulations (PSIM, PLECS, MATLAB), high-frequency magnetics and planar transformer design, high-voltage gate driver and protection circuit layout on multi-layer PCBs, laboratory hardware prototyping, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing. Standard working hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexible lab access for ongoing research runs.

The position is purely contractual for an overall tenure of 3 years (2 years as JRF, progressing to SRF in the 3rd year upon satisfactory review). Immediate joining upon offer issuance is expected.

After 2 years of satisfactory performance as JRF, the fellow is elevated to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) with an enhanced fellowship of ₹42,000/- per month. Completing an ISRO-sponsored aerospace hardware project alongside an IIT Roorkee Ph.D. provides premier credentials, directly opening pathways to Scientist/Engineer 'SC'/'SD' appointments at ISRO, DRDO labs, aerospace electronics R&D centers, or faculty positions in premier engineering colleges.
