Educational Qualification

Essential qualification and competencies:
• Educational Qualification: M.Tech or Ph.D. in Mechanical / Materials / Aerospace Engineering from a recognized university (candidates who have submitted thesis and are awaiting viva-voce are eligible to apply).
• Core Research Experience: Demonstrated research experience in materials characterization, metal additive manufacturing, laser cladding, hybrid surface deposition, or thermal/fluid characterization of advanced engineering components.
• Desirable Qualifications: Hands-on exposure to Directed Energy Deposition (DED) or laser cladding; expertise in SEM, EDS, EBSD, XRD, and electrochemical analysis; proficiency in computational tools (MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, COMSOL, CFD); and peer-reviewed SCI/Scopus journal publications on 3D printing of superalloys.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Upper age limit is 35 years as on the closing date (04.10.2026). Standard age relaxation applies for SC / ST / OBC / Women / PwD candidates as per Government of India / DRDO norms.

The Research Associate works in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Jammu under a high-priority DRDO-sponsored defense R&D project (RP00268) led by Dr. Rajkumar Velu. The project focuses on developing metal 3D printing (Directed Energy Deposition/laser cladding) toolpaths, process optimization, microstructural characterization (SEM/EBSD/XRD), and multi-physics CFD/thermal simulations to remanufacture critical aero-engine components. The laboratory provides advanced metal additive manufacturing equipment and computing clusters. The work atmosphere is academically rigorous and defense-oriented, involving strict milestone documentation, DRDO review presentations, and high-impact peer-reviewed publications.

The appointment is temporary and contractual, initially for a duration of 6 months.
