Educational Qualification

First class Post Graduate Degree (M.E. / M.Tech / M.Des / M.S. or integrated PG degree) in mechanical, aerospace, design, or industrial design engineering with specialization in thermal, product design, fluid structure interaction, industrial design, or manufacturing; OR Second class Post Graduate Degree with Ph.D. in a relevant discipline. Candidates should possess a relevant undergraduate engineering degree (B.E. / B.Tech) and expertise in hyperthermia device development, engineering optimization, fluid-structure interaction, safety standards, and clinical testing.

Age Limit & Relaxations

Upper age limit is 35 years as on the closing date 02.10.2026. Age relaxation is admissible as per Government of India / IIT Madras norms for SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and women candidates.

Project Research Scientists at the Department of Engineering Design, IIT Madras work on cutting-edge biomedical technology under the guidance of Prof. Kavitha Arunachalam. The focus is developing clinical hyperthermia devices for therapeutic oncology treatments. Daily responsibilities include CAD modeling, thermal-fluid simulations, finite element analysis (FEA), fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling, prototype fabrication, in-vitro and lab-scale safety testing according to ISO/IEC medical electrical equipment standards, and coordinating clinical trial evaluations with partner medical institutions.
