Educational Qualification

Essential qualification and experience:
• Educational Qualification: 3-year Diploma in Engineering.
• Mandatory Experience: Minimum 15 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of seismological networks around dam sites in the Garhwal Himalaya.
• Desirable Qualification: Experience in the operation and maintenance of VSAT-based local seismological networks, and processing and analysis of seismological data acquired from such networks for preparation of Bulletins and Technical Reports.
• Job Description: Repair and maintenance of 18 seismological field stations, collection of seismological data from field stations around Tehri Dam, data handling, processing, waveform interpretation, and preparation of seismic bulletins and technical reports.

The position is based within the Department of Earthquake Engineering at IIT Roorkee under the long-standing THDCIL-funded Tehri Dam Seismic Monitoring Project (THD-219-EQD). The Project Assistant is responsible for the physical operation, maintenance, and data retrieval across the 18-station telemetered seismological network deployed across the rugged terrain of the Garhwal Himalayas around Tehri Dam and reservoir rim. The role requires extensive field travel, hands-on electronic troubleshooting, solar power/battery upkeep, satellite VSAT telemetry alignment, seismic waveform data processing, and assisting faculty in publishing regular monthly seismic bulletins and technical reports for dam safety authorities.

The engagement is purely contractual and temporary, co-terminus with the project duration up to March 31, 2027. Work is divided between the IIT Roorkee campus and field seismological observatory stations around Tehri, Rishikesh, and Garhwal district.
